Panhandle Animal Shelter

About Us

We understand the heartbreak associated with surrendering your pet to a shelter. The fact is we see it every day. In 2016, we experienced a large increase in our owner surrenders. So we at Panhandle Animal Shelter (PAS), located in Sandpoint, Idaho, created an alternative to surrendering to a shelter -, an interactive rehoming website. The program was launched in our local community and immediately we saw positive results.

Aspen was one of our first success stories. Her owners loved Aspen very much and were heart-broken about the situation, but their home life was changing drastically. A major life change had occurred and the owners could no longer give their beloved pet the active lifestyle she needed. This was due to one of the owner's advancing illness, Parkinson’s disease.

So sweet Aspen was listed on and a wonderful match was made! She was adopted by someone who already had a dog of the same breed and understood the need for providing an active lifestyle for Aspen, who loves to chase a ball and go on daily walks. Her former owners described Aspen's new home as "absolutely the perfect match" and were "thrilled that she is going to have such a wonderful life." They had peace of mind about Aspen's new home and were so relieved in knowing that all her needs would be met.

PAS is happy to expand our lifesaving efforts by providing this alternative to shelter surrender. Our goal is to provide this tool to shelters and rescues, throughout the nation and world, for free. As a small animal shelter, we will rely on donations to help offset the cost of running the program and to assist homeless dogs and cats in the Inland Northwest.

You can help expand Home to Home to shelters everywhere by donating today.
