Drop Everything And Read - D.E.A.R. Day

A fundraising campaign for Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition

Your gift this #GivingTuesday will encourage 2nd graders in Oklahoma City to make reading a part of their daily routines!

Since 2010, the Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition has hosted more than 1,200 school children for D.E.A.R. DAY at the Oklahoma State Capitol. The kids and state legislators literally drop everything and read in the rotunda. Your gift will provide bus transportation, snacks, and a field trip to the Oklahoma State Capitol and Oklahoma History Center to more than 200 second graders in Oklahoma City. Plus, every kid receives free books to take home!

Inspired by Beverly Cleary’s book Ramona Quimby, Age 8, D.E.A.R. Day is a national celebration of reading during the month of April. D.E.A.R. day encourages kids (and adults) to make reading a part of their daily routines.

Literacy
is critical for success in academics and throughout life. This year, 28% of third graders in Oklahoma City Public Schools received unsatisfactory scores on the state reading test. Your donation will encourage kids to develop their reading skills--and have some fun while doing it!
