About Volunteer Service Day at Noxubee Refuge

Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is looking for volunteers to help with the painting and restoring of our artist wall in the Refuge visitor center, as well as the clean-up and preservation of Hollis Creek.

For roughly the past ten years, Noxubee has conducted an Artist Rendition program that allows local/abroad artists to spend two weeks at Sam D Hamilton National Wildlife Refuge in Noxubee, MS. Following their stay, the artist(s) produce a piece to be displayed in the visitor's center. The volunteers will aid in the painting of the artist's wall (around 400 square feet) as well as the hanging of the pieces from the previous artists.

Along with the restoration of the artist's wall, volunteers will have an opportunity to help with the cleanup of Hollis Creek in Noxubee. The creek runs through Starkville, Brooksville, and Louisville. As the creek run its course it passes through multiple private lands, Noxubee High School, and Mississippi State University. The accumulation of waste has gotten to a point where we need the public's help to counteract the waste pile-up.

During the event, volunteers will learn where the trash has come from to give them a more understanding of the effect they have on their surrounding environment.

Volunteers will meet at the visitor's center at 9 am on July 30th, and the event will last until 3 pm.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own lunch, but snacks will be provided throughout the day.

To volunteer, contact Deontae Baskin (205) 623-7101 or [email protected].
