About Facilities Maintenance Volunteers
Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge is seeking volunteers to perform general refuge cleaning, landscaping, and minor maintenance duties in order to maintain visitors center and adjacent refuge grounds.
Volunteer opportunities include: cleaning, repairing, and servicing all equipment used in grounds maintenance (i.e. mowers, tractor/trailers, hand/power tools, etc.); trimming gardens, trees, bushes, and shrubs on trails/roads using hand tools or motorized vehicles; repairing refuge exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities; as well as helping to maintain refuge boardwalks and trails.
Volunteers with experience using and maintaining motorized equipment and hand/power tools; understanding of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to grounds keeping and maintenance work; and knowledge of building cleaning and maintenance work are preferred, but anyone is welcome as training will be provided on site.
This position requires the ability to work outside in all weather conditions with excessive dust or dirt and aplicants must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time on different types of terrain. Position may require bending, lifting, and climbing. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and must pass a federal background check prior to starting for use of any machinery.
