About Work with Us, Honored Guests and Friends at Events and Wissatinnewag

A very important part of the work of the Nolumbeka Project is to create possibilities for tribal members to come to our area to educate and enlighten us through varied programs. The topics are always chosen by the presenters, we just provide the venues, publicity, honorariums, etc. We have a minimum of four events per year including the Day of Remembrance of the Great Falls Massacre in May and this year the fifth Pocumtuck Homelands Festival the first Saturday in August. We hope someday to find people for a committee to share the responsibility of events planning, fundraising, publicity, organizing, all the areas essential to successful events. Aside from that, most of our needs are short-term and event specific like hanging posters, providing refreshments, setting up and cleaning up. The Pocumtuck Homelands Festival needs 30 - 40 people to cover the 12 hour day. Those tasks would include help with parking, trash and recycling, helping at our tables, helping presenters and vendors set up and as needed throughout the day, This year we need someone to provide transportation for Navaho/Dineh flute player Kelvin Mockingbird to and from the airport. We also hope to find a volunteer, or low cost, experienced sound engineer. We hope to borrow a few pop-up tents needed by a couple vendors, including K. Mockingbird who will be selling CDs. We need firewood for small fires at the May 19 Day of Remembrance at the Great Falls Discovery Center and on August 4 at the festival at Unity Park. Please contact Diane Dix, events coordinator, at [email protected] if you're interested. Also, you can inquire there about the gardening possibilities. Thank you very much.
