About Stand for Local Democracy
New Hampshire Community Rights Network (NHCRN) is a non-profit, tax-exempt, statewide grassroots organization that provides education and organizing support for communities across New Hampshire to prohibit harmful projects that violate the rights of people and ecosystems and to assert the Right of Local Community Self-Government and Rights of Nature.
Education empowers, and NHCRN is committed to grassroots education for residents and their elected officials. The NHCRN Community Rights Awareness Campaign focuses on local community self-government, which is essential to achieving economic, social, and environmental sustainability in communities across the state. The campaign will assist in helping protect the rights of all residents, their communities, and nature from harmful corporate activities.
NHCRN's Community Rights Awareness Campaign includes:
• NHCRN Community Rights Awareness Workshops – provide an in-depth look at how the political and legal structures have been set up to protect the interests of a select few.
• We The People 2.0 - The Second American Revolution & Invisible Hand – community screenings of documentaries featuring CELDF and partner communities building a new democracy movement across the United States. Public screenings will be followed by discussion.
• CELDF's Democracy Schools – inform communities how to assert local control in order to protect the rights of residents, communities and nature.
• NHCRN Fundraising Concerts – feature live musical entertainment from NH musicians along with a brief presentation on NH’s people’s movement forwarding the Right of Local Community Self-Government and Rights of Nature at both the local and state level.
• Call to Amend the NH Constitution – add your name, business, or organization to the call for the NH Legislature to acknowledge the Right of Local Community Self-Government. Print, share, complete, scan, and then email to [email protected].
• Local Resolution Supporting the NH Community Rights Amendment – call upon the NH legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot explicitly recognizing the Right of Local Community Self-Government. We partner with CELDF to assist with your organizing efforts. Email [email protected] for additional information.
• State Constitutional NH Community Rights Amendment – empowers people throughout the state with recognized authority, at the municipal level, to expand and protect the rights of people and ecosystems, including the rights of nature.
The NHCRN Community Rights Awareness Campaign will help lay the groundwork to secure Community Rights throughout the state of New Hampshire. Adding Article 40. Right of Local Community Self-Government to the New Hampshire Constitution's Bill of Rights will recognize and protect those rights.
