About Receiving Area

Volunteers working in the receiving area have the important role of interacting with our donors, often being the only faces they see. Volunteers are responsible for accepting and sorting donated items.
Duties may include:
• Accept gently used clothing , furniture, and household items from donors
• Provide receipts to donors
• Place donations and recycling in appropriate bins
• Place and rearrange large furniture items in shopping area
• Use sound judgment and established guidelines for deciding what to keep
• Recycle clothing/soft items deemed unfit for use in white trash bags (holes, stains, odor, animal hair, filth, or outdated)
• Load carts with sorted items ready to be placed in shopping area
• Hang or fold clothing based on appropriate location
• Measure and label outgoing bed linens
• Break down excessive or oversize boxes and place in cardboard recycle bin
• Organize and tidy receiving bay, empty trash, and sweep

Application Process

Be the first one our Veterans see when they walk in the door and the last one they see before they leave. Greet, describe what we do, help them get enrolled and give tours of our shop. Answer the phone and respond to voice mails. Put out fires that may pop up when no one else is looking.
