About Making Meals!

While we are still asking that volunteers and donors refrain from entering our sites to practice social distancing and help prevent the spread of COVID-19, there are still ways that you can volunteer! Your homeless neighbors still need your support during this time. You can help in the following ways:
Prepare (or pick up from a local restaurant!) and drop off a meal to serve the 8 guests at Mondloch House
Help a local restaurant while doing good! Encourage your friends and family to give $$, pool the money, and order catering from a local restaurant to serve guests at the Kennedy Shelter, Bailey’s Shelter and Supportive Housing, or the Residential Program Center
This helps not only your homeless neighbors, but the neighborhood restaurants that have been hit hardest by the pandemic
Each shelter serves 50 guests, so include that in your calculations!
Prepare bag lunches for the Kennedy Shelter and Bailey’s Shelter and Supportive Housing
Fairfax County’s Hypothermia Prevention Program ended today, 4/1/20, but many local drop-in centers, including Gartlan Center and the Lamb Center, have closed due to the pandemic
Starting this week, Kennedy and Bailey’s Shelter will become “stop-in centers” for unsheltered homeless adults. While encouraging social-distancing, individuals will be allowed into the shelter for a short time to receive a bagged lunch, meet with a case manager, and do laundry
You can purchase and drop off ingredients for sandwiches or prepare the sandwiches at home (remember to label the bags so guests know what type of sandwich they are getting!)
A great activity for your younger kids is to decorate brown paper bags with notes of encouragement for guests!
