About Charles W. Morgan Ship Event

Boston National Historical Park is looking for volunteers to assist during the visit of the 1840's whale ship Charles W. Morgan to Pier 1 of the Charlestown Navy Yard from July 18 to July 22.

The Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whale ship in the world, will be berthed next to USS Constitution and will be open for the public to board. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the 19th century whale ship, learn more about the Morgan, whales, and whaling in the 22,000 square-foot dockside exhibition. Mystic Seaport Museum's shipwrights restored the National Historic Landmark vessel and made her seaworthy for this voyage. Visitors can interact with costumed role players from 1876 and listen to live music and sea chanteys.

This is an exciting, one-time event, and the park will need assistance of a team of volunteers to help welcome visitors to the Charles W. Morgan as well as orient visitors to nearby sites and activities. The period of activity each day is 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Volunteer shifts would be approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. shift. The days anticipated to draw the most people are Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20, although help is needed each day of the event.

Please help us make this special ship visit to Boston a great success!
