VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION:
MIDDLE EDUCATION TUTOR

Purpose:
Provide individual and small group tutoring and homework assistance to students. Assist students in improving academic achievement by helping them with homework and/or reviewing class material. Other assistance might include: discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.

Volunteer Duties:
 Help members with daily homework.
 Help staff with the Clubs tutoring program.
 Provide encouragement and support by helping members develop confidence and positive attitude toward learning by affirming their thinking and progress in their lessons.
 Showing respect for the members by listening to what they have to say and by involving them in decisions about the learning process.
 Assures that all members sign in when coming into the program.
 Maintains members order and discipline by managing members’ behavior; reinforces rules of the club and all the recreational areas (including the gym).
 Meeting regularly and punctually.

Time Commitment:
 Make a semester commitment
 Spend a minimum of two hours a week as a tutor
 Communicate with staff on a weekly basis

Participation Requirements:
 Be interested in working with young people
 Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
 Be willing to complete the application and screening process
 Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
 Attend mentor training sessions as prescribed
 Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities
