Giving Tuesday

How can one person help thousands of animals? The answer is easy- spay and neuter.

A fundraising campaign for Mississippi Spay And Neuter
On Giving Tuesday, people all around the world will be celebrating the spirit of giving. In this spirit, my goal is to give animals all over our state a chance to live a happy and healthy life. But many of you may wonder, how can one person like you or me save the thousands of animals who need our compassion and support? This is a question I asked myself a lot back in 2005. Hurricane Katrina had devastated the Gulf Coast. People and animals were suffering. The state of Mississippi was euthanizing tens of thousands of cats and dogs each year, and countless more were dying in the streets. The answer was simple- spay and neuter. I was just one person, but by enabling others to spay and neuter their pets, we have been able to drastically change the landscape of pet overpopulation in our state. A pair of cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years, and a pair of dogs and their puppies can produce 67,000 dogs in 6 years. One person really can make a huge difference! Our organization is now 10 years old, and has performed and subsidized over 60,000 spay/neuter surgeries. Though we have a long way to go, we have made a significant impact in the state of pet overpopulation in Mississippi. Please give today and ensure that all cats and dogs who are born in our state have a chance to live in a home with a loving family, like Maddie, Daxton and their puppies who were rescued by Jackie T. and fixed at our Big Fix Clinic:

"My sister and I went to an abandoned house everyday for 2-3 weeks before we attempted to catch these babies- the mom, dad, and two puppies. We brought them food & medicine to help with their ailments. Many people passed by each day, but no one helped.

They were very skittish, so my husband built us a cage to trap them in. We used liver to draw them in. It took several hours but we got them! We put them in a pen at my sister's house. It was very small but they had to be quarantined due to the mange. When I went to feed them the next morning, they were all gone. We cried and searched our area for 2 days. We live out in the country and it was nothing but woods around. On the third day, I went back to the abandoned house, which was 7 miles away. I didn't expect to find them there, but miraculously, they were! All four of them." -Jackie T.

Your tax-deductible gift may help us fix one cat or dog, but will prevent the suffering of thousands more. You are just one person, but you have the power to make real change in the lives of animals. Our fundraising goal of $3,000 will fund more than 60 surgeries- that's two full days at the Big Fix Clinic!

All of us at Mississippi Spay and Neuter wish you and your pets the happiest of holidays.
