Migrant Justice was founded in 2009 after a young man from Mexico was killed in a preventable accident while working on a Vermont dairy farm. His death shined a light on the 1,500 immigrant workers who support Vermont's dairy industry and on the conditions they face.
Over the past seven years, farmworkers have come together to protect their human rights to dignified housing and work, freedom of movement, and freedom from discrimination. With the support and solidarity of thousands of Vermonters, immigrant farmworkers have won incredible gains, changing state laws to provide access to driver's licenses for immigrant workers and to protect against racial profiling.
Now, Migrant Justice is working to support small farms and transform labor conditions in the dairy industry with a path-breaking program called "Milk with Dignity." Through the program, workers and consumers come together to demand that companies take responsibility for the conditions in their supply chains.
