About Help Distribute Food in Holly Springs

The 2nd Monday of each month, Mid-South Food Bank has a mobile pantry distribution in Holly Springs. A mobile pantry is a one day, monthly distribution of food to underserved areas. The Marshall County Mobile Pantry (Holly Springs) needs more volunteers. Volunteers arrive at 8:30 a.m. and help bag up produce and other food items to be distributed. The people receiving their food are lined up in the parking lot waiting to be served. Volunteers fill shopping carts with food for an average family and deliver the carts to the cars. At the end of the shift, volunteers help with the cleanup. The distribution ends at 2:00 p.m. so volunteers can expect to be there until approximately 3:00 p.m. Approximately 300 families are provided with food each month.

This is one of the few mobile pantries that begins indoors at the E. L. Smith Multi-Purpose building in Holly Springs. The food is all indoors for processing/bagging and filling shopping carts. Many mobile pantries are held in parking lots which sometimes means you are working in the rain, heat and cold.

Training will be provided by Marilyn Curry on your first day of volunteering. The pace of this mobile pantry is extremely fast. Baskets are pushed back and forth at high speeds to keep the line moving and to serve people as quickly as possible. In saying that, I would suggest no children under the age of 12.
