About Southwest Detroit Area Flood Assistance

The Michigan Community Service Commission, the state of Michigan’s lead agency on volunteerism, is looking for volunteers to help southeast Michigan flood victims of the Aug. 11 torrential rain and flooding.

Volunteers are needed to assist with cleanup, muck-out (removing dirt, water, sewage, sand) and removal of damaged and contaminated household goods. Volunteers should be able to handle manual labor and be prepared to get dirty and ready to handle items that have come in contact with flood water, mold, and sewage.

Volunteers are also needed to visit Southwest Detroit homes to check if residents are in need of flood cleanup assistance and conduct a quick assessment on the amount of work needed.
