About Volunteer for Mens Shelter Of Charlotte

1) Meal Service- over 600 meals served a day!
Individual and groups are always needed to assist, prepare and/or serve the five meals that MSC provides every day of the week (Three at the Tryon Street campus, and two at the Statesville Avenue campus). It is a popular group activity. Please note that opportunities to serve meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are filled for this year -2014.

2) Regularly Scheduled Positions:
If a volunteer wishes for more involvement, opportunities such as Kitchen Assistant, Front Desk attendant, Clerical Assistance and in the Commissary are ideal matches. Additionally, we seek volunteers with strong event planning skills to assist with the annual fundraising event.

3) Helping men find employment and housing – 497 men obtained housing last year!
The Housing and Employment Resource Center (HERC) is an ideal match for individuals wishing to share specific skills. In the HERC, volunteers assist men with obtaining foundation documents (e.g. birth certificates, North Carolina Identification Cards, Social Security Cards, credit reports); help men navigate resume building, online job applications; and assist with searches for employment and housing.

4) Finding time for the essentials and fun too!
Other opportunities include conducting drives (e.g., pillows, socks, underwear, toiletries), or planning gamedays, or ice cream socials.

When do I volunteer?
Generally, volunteers are asked to commit at least four hours of their time, either over a several sessions or with one activity. Volunteer hours vary greatly – anytime between 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

**All volunteers are at least 18 years of age unless approved by the Volunteer Coordinator.
