About East Lansing Elementary Math Festival

At this annual event, more than 150 elementary students are led through a series of math exploration tables. Volunteers are needed as group leaders, to shepherd a group of about 10 students through their afternoon. Volunteers are also needed for station leaders, who will be trained in advance to lead an activity for a series of groups.

Application Process

contact Ashley Ahlin at [email protected] to apply for positions as a Group Leader or Station leader. Parents of participating students are invited to serve as Group Leaders. All parent volunteers will need to complete the background check through the East Lansing Public Schools which is available here: http://elps.k12.mi.us/education/components/docmgr/download.php?sectiondetailid=13244&fileitem=16035

Set up

We need helpers to set up the stations for the Math Festival.

This volunteer organize and set up the lunch station for all volunteers, and clean up after lunch is over. (All expenses will be reimbursed)

Who volunteered?

Station Leader

October 21, 2014 12:00pm – 4:00pm

This task is filled or completed

Station leaders will be trained in advance to lead students through a math related exploration or game. Interest in math is important, and experience with kids is also helpful. A free lunch will be offered noon-1, and a free T-shirt will be provided.

Who volunteered?

Group Leader

October 21, 2014 12:00pm – 4:30pm

This task is filled or completed

Group Leaders will be responsible for a group of about 10 elementary students, guiding them through a scheduled set of stations. You'll receive a free lunch during set up (noon-1) and a free T-shirt to wear. Experience with kids is a plus, math experience is not needed.

There will be another event in the high school cafeteria beginning at 5pm, so we will need to clean up and move our supplies quickly after the festival. If you are able to help with clean up for 30-45 minutes at the end of the day, please sign up!
