Masuk robotics is a student lead after school program. Our goal is to engage students in VEX Robotics Competitions, teaching problem solving and communcation skills through robotics, engineering, and computer science.
We currently have approximately 150 student members from grades 6-12, with 18 robots registered to compete in local, regional, national and international competition.
Each year we receive a challenge from the Vex organization, structured like a game. Each of our student teams must design, build, program and maintain a robot that meets this challenge and performs well in competition without direct input from adult leaders. After each competition, they evaluate their robots and make appropriate changes and improvements, while documenting the entire process from start to finish.
Students are challenged to defend their designs and ideas to their peers, to our adult volunteers, and occasionally to judges in competition Building these strong communcation skills has been essential to our success.
We have had much success over the past nine years of our program. We are currently the 2018 Southern New England High School and Middle School Champions and will be competing in the 2019 Southern New England Championships in early March to defend those titles.
Our goal is to help our members be better prepaid for life after high school. Many move on to pursue engineering degrees in college in preparation for careers in the fields of robotics and engineering. Others apply the valuable skills they learn from us to other fields of work and study.
