About TRASH BAGS
TRASH BAGS is a line of clutches, purses and accessories crafted in Honduras from 100% post-consumer "trash." TRASH BAGS are handmade by the women of COFEACOMA, a cooperative of certified organic coffee growers in the mountains of Comayagua, Honduras, from the snack chip bags that litter their communities.
TRASH BAGS products are available in three color options: multicolored, which are woven from the outside of the chip bags; silver, which are woven from the inside (lining) of the chips bags; and combination, which highlights the artistry of the craft by interweaving the inside and outside of the repurposed chip bags. Each bag features a tag signed by the artist, along with the name of her community and the date created.
When you purchase TRASH BAGS, you are:
Providing income for women artists and their families
Supporting education and community health
Contributing to women's independence and entrepreneurship
Supporting environmental education, consciousness and welfare
In addition to income generation and community development, the TRASH BAGS initiative is founded on the principle of repurposing as an alternative to the standard practice of burning trash, which contributes to air pollution, respiratory problems and even cancer in community residents.
