LSSM's refugee foster care program serves youth who legally enter the US without a parent or guardian and must remain in foster care until their 18th birthday. LSSM utilizes volunteer mentors and tutors for these youth to assist in developing healthy relationships and in succeeding academically. Our vision is that the Refugee Mentor Program will provide participating youth with a local adult mentor who will support them in learning various independent living and social skills, help them adjust to cultural and religious differences, and explore educational, employment and career choices while building a relationship of unconditional caring and friendship.
