About Fostering Animals in Need

At Louisville Friends of the Animals, we are always in need of volunteers to serve as fosters to dogs and cats that are at our shelter! When you sign up to foster, you agree to take a homeless animal into your home and give him or her love, care and attention until the animal is adopted. Our foster volunteers provide their animal with adequate food/water, shelter and toys as needed. We also hope you will help us get the word out about the animal you are fostering and help us find him/her a forever home!

Even with our physical animal shelter, we often run out of room for the animals in need. The number of animals we can help depends on how many foster families we have, so please consider opening your heart and your home to temporarily foster.

Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you help us in our efforts to rescue as many animals as we can from being put to sleep. Fostering benefits these animals by removing the stress of being in a shelter, which can be a scary place causing an animal to not let its true personality shine through. It also gives animals the socialization and time they need to be ready for adoption, in turn helping us to learn more about the animal so it will end up in the best home possible!

Visit our shelter Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM to visit the animals and choose one to foster!

Application Process

In addition to providing food/water, shelter and toys for your animal you choose to foster, we ask that you pay a $20 fee upfront that will be refunded to you upon the adoption of your animal or when the animal has been returned to our animal shelter.

Family-Friendly

Parents and children are invited and encouraged to get involved.
