About Volunteer with LLTK

LLTK has seasonal opportunities for volunteers to get involved at our Hood Canal and Orcas Island hatcheries. Volunteer activities range from basic facility improvements to assisting with river surveys and redd pumping. Please see the descriptions below for more detailed information about specific activities.

Volunteer Opportunities:
--Field Work: LLTK staff collect data in the field year-round. If you are an experienced hiker with in-stream experience, we could use your help with a variety of important research activities, ranging from assisting with embryo collection in the spring to sampling adult spawners in the fall.
--Marking and Tagging: Each year, LLTK's hatcheries rear and release young salmon. Like most hatchery fish, LLTK's are marked to distinguish them from wild fish, and tagged with coded wires to collect survival and harvest information. If you are interested in playing a role in this important step in the life of a young hatchery fish, we'd like to include you.
--Facility Improvements: Annually, LLTK hosts work parties at our Glenwood Springs and Lilliwaup Creek hatcheries. Activities include cleaning tanks and ponds, clearing debris, repairing storm damage, replacing aging equipment, and general facility maintenance.
