Literacy Volunteers of Kent County

About Us

Since 1980, LVKC has provided free one-on-one tutoring to adults whose low English literacy skills prevent them from functioning effectively in their homes, workplaces, communities, or as citizens of the U.S.
Tutoring by trained volunteers is done on one-on-one basis to meet adult students' unique needs. LVKC provides ongoing support to students and tutors in the program. Our small conversation classes are designed for adult English Learners to practice their English conversational skills. Classes are offered at Coventry and East Greenwich Public Libraries.
Our students earn their GED, enroll in college, become a US citizen, pass their driver's license, become a certified Nursing Assistant and a Teaching Assistant, start a new business, improve career opportunities and become more involved parents.
