About River Road Holiday Event Support

Our Walk It! Bike It! Lewisburg committee has put on River Road Holidays for the past three years and we're planning another one for this Mothers Day.

What's a Road Holiday? The basic idea is that a stretch of road is temporarily closed to vehicular traffic and opened instead for walkers, bikers, runners, wheelchair riders, etc. It leverages existing public infrastructure to create a public park and promenade where one does not currently exist. The public is invited to come make of the space along the Susquehanna what they will. Whether they choose to walk, bike, jog, ride a wheelchair, scoot, skate, or even just sit, it's up to them.

This year’s River Road Holiday is being held on River Road north of the Borough between North Water Street by the Lewisburg Community Garden and Winter Farm Lane near the main entrance to RiverWoods. It will be a great opportunity to roll and stroll along the river. Parking is available on street in the Borough, as well as at Wolfe Field and in the grass lot off Winter Farm Lane near the main entrance to RiverWoods.

This is a fun way to celebrate Mothers Day and Mother Earth. It's also an opportunity to volunteer to help make the event possible for everyone to enjoy. Shifts are available from either 1 to 3 or 3 to 5 to help with staffing the entries, the info tables, or (weather permitting) pushing seniors from RiverWoods nursing facility along the route in wheelchairs.
