2016 Battle Creek's Fantasy Forest Art Carve
Hosted by: Leila Arboretum
About 2016 Battle Creek's Fantasy Forest Art Carve
Volunteers are needed to help with Battle Creek's Fantasy Forest Art Carve, June 16-18, 2016
What is the Fantasy Forest?
The Emerald Ash Borer (an invasive insect from Asia) arrived in Southeast Michigan in 2002, and has since killed more than 50 million Ash trees across North America. Nearly 7.5 billion Ash trees are still at risk.
Over 100 years ago, 44 Ash trees were planted in a grove beside the main entrance of Leila Arboretum. By 2013, all of them were dead.
During the Summer of 2015, thirteen Ash tree trunks were transformed into works of art and Battle Creek's Fantasy Forest was born.
From June 16-18, 2016, eleven more pieces of artwork will be added, either in the form of still-standing tree trunks or by using additional trunks placed on concrete pads.
Watch the Forest come alive!
