About Latina Empowerment Conference

Second Annual Latina Empowerment Conference will be held on April 6th 2018 @ Bakersfield College. The purpose of the Latina Empowerment Conference is to provide a forum for personal growth and development for local youth. The conference will provide a cultural lens based on experiences of Latinas. The objective is to provide a platform for engagement and interaction among multiple generations and begin a dialogue focused on Latina empowerment. Volunteers are needed for various positions such as: Check-in, human arrows & team leaders. You will be able to experience this amazing conference while volunteering! Volunteers must be 18+.

You will be in charge of welcoming the students at the designated bus drop off. You will also direct them to the registration table.

You will be in charge of checking in each school and giving the counselor the bags with itinerary. The counselor will check-in all of their students.

You will be directing each group to the next session-answering questions as to where each room is, where they need to go, etc. (We don’t want students wondering around)

This task is filled or completed

You and your partner will be assigned a school and a color (each school will have a color too). You will stay with your school during the entire conference. You will need to guide them to each session, making sure they don’t get lost or left behind, as well as keeping the group on schedule. In addition, you will need to make sure that your group picks up after themselves (trash, papers, etc.) and that the participants are respectful of the speaker (aka No cell phones).

Room & Speaker Monitor

April 6, 2018 7:30am – 1:30pm

This task is filled or completed

You will be in charge of the speaker and the room. Upon arrival, you will have a basket of “goodies” for the speaker. You will take the speaker to their room. You will be in charge of keeping the room clean after each group, making sure that the speaker knows how much time they have left (We will provide you with 5 min., 1 min., 30 sec., que cards). In addition, you will also need to make sure the speaker has everything they need to present (water, snacks, etc.).
