Application Process

The Application Process
It is important that you check the age, education and language requirements for the program before applying. The minimum age for the majority of our programs is 18; however, we do have a bit of choices for volunteers aged 17. For more information, please write to [email protected].

When to Apply?
You should apply as soon as you are, 100% sure that you wish to join us. It is never too late to sign up. However, we ask that all applicants apply at least 6 weeks before they intend to join us. If you plan to sign up within 4 weeks of your program start date, please give us a call or email to confirm there are places available.

Once you have determined which program you wish to apply for then you should read all the program information and the Kenosis Terms and Conditions.

How to Apply?
You will need to apply for the program via our website. If you click on the “Tell Me More” button next to the program you are interested in; then this will take you to the program overview page. On the right hand-side of the screen you will see an ‘Apply Now’. This takes you through to the online application form or Download Volunteering Application here, fill up and send us along with your updated CV at [email protected].

The online application form itself is pretty self-explanatory. You’ll need to pick the dates you wish to go and enter some information about yourself and your expectations. We will ask you three more detailed questions in the online application. They are:

 What are your expectations for the program?
 What relevant skills/experience do you have?
 What are your motivations for joining the program?
 What you intended to do once you are back home? It can be your future or support our cause.

Please be as elaborate as possible with these doubts. The more we know about you and your expectations the better. This is specially true for volunteers who are practicing the program as part of a degree elective scheme and so need to fit certain criteria whilst on the program.

Flight Quote
Kenosis is able to source competitively priced flights for our volunteers. We’ll ask you whether you require a flight quote during the online application form. If you would like us to ship you a flight quote then please let us know which airport you would like to fly from, and the dates you would like to fly out and come back home.

Health Insurance
You will possess the choice to add Kenosis’s insurance policy to your program during the online application form. One week is considered as 7 days, so when working out which duration of cover to purchase, you will need to count the days you will be away including the day you fly out and the day you return home. In most instances you will actually be away for a day or two more than your plan duration. For instance, if you are flying from the UK to Thailand for a 4-week program than it is more than likely you will need the 5-week insurance policy.

You can add Kenosis’s travel insurance onto your booking at any point. So, if you did not add the insurance option to your program during the online application form then don’t care. Simply drop us an email and we can append it into your application up to one day before you begin your plan.
Once you have submitted your application you will receive an automated email from us in 20 minutes saying we have received your application (please check your junk-mail as it may have accidentally been placed there). If you haven’t got an electronic mail from us within 20 minutes, then assume your application has not gone through and resubmit your Online Application or Download Volunteering Application hardcopy here, fill up and transport us along with your updated CV at [email protected].

Applying for Multiple Programs
If you’d like to Unite us in multiple locations, then you have two choices. You can apply for each program separately. Or you can apply for the program which you plan to join us at first, and then in the ‘special requirements’ section of the online application form to insert the public figure of the other program/s you wish to join (the beginning date and the continuance of the course of study). We will then manually add the additional program/s to your diligence and confirm it via email. Please mark that the Registration Fee applies to each destination you join us in.

Application Submitted
One time you have filled out your application, we will mail you an Application Received email to let you know we have successfully received it. We will be in contact within three working days to confirm the outcome of your application. Subsequently we have confirmed your place along the volunteer program we will transmit you an Application Successful email.

Pay your enrollment fee
In order to confirm your place, you are required to pay a USD. 95 Registration Fee within five working days of receiving your Application Successful email. Your application processed once the fee is paid entirely.

Payment is made via a secure online payment service called PayPal or Contact Us. We will mail you all the relevant links to clear payment via email.

On reception of your Registration Fee payment, we will send you a Welcome to Kenosis email. Inside this email we will confirm your program details and outline how making payment of the Program Fee. This email will also include a link where you can download the Volunteer Handbook. It is a downloadable PDF file. We do not send a hard copy of the Volunteer Handbook.

The Volunteer Handbook contains everything you require to know to prepare for your trip. Please study this carefully and if you are uncertain about anything, just getting in touch with us.

It’s time to start planning!

Pay Your Program Fee
The remaining Program Fee is due 60 days prior to your program start date. You should refer to the Welcome to Kenosis email you received when you paid your deposit for the link to make payment of your Program Fee. If you are unable to recover the email then don’t care. Simply give us a shout or an email and we can re-send you the connection.

If you have booked within 60 days of the program start date you are required to pay both the Registration and Program Fee in full within 48 hours of receiving your Application Successful email.

Online and off and Training
Once the volunteer, paid program fee, the volunteers will have an orientation of the said project and more information. After arriving in the host country, there will be intensive training for a week before placing in the project. Volunteers can ask for multiple questions to know or familiarize on any subject that matters to them. Do not hesitate to inquire us by telephoning or writing to us at [email protected]

Program Schedule host country
We will be giving you the whole program schedule to make things easier for the volunteers. On with the program agenda, there will be other essential text files related to establishments or local culture. This will help volunteers to plan their free times, weekends and after project work with us to get out to visit interesting spots in India. The tentative program schedule will be mailed to the participants; however the last draft of the plan is done once training completed in the host country before investing into the task.

Travel Tour Itinerary
Participants are requested to submit the whole plan of trip to India. This Travel Tour Itinerary (TTI) plan should include from the day of your departure (Start date) from home country and return (end date) from the host country to your home country after working with us. This plan also includes your personal trip around India. This helps organization to help you with logistic arrangement across our network in India. We are happy to organize and facilitate your personal trip to other shares of India at your price. The Template for TTI will be mailed to participants. The volunteers can just fill up your plans and send to the host organization. If you have not received, do not hesitate to inquire us.

Since its population passed the one billion mark, India’s economy has boomed, and its labor market has found itself much in demand from all manner of foreign companies looking to outsource work or benefit from the cheap manpower.

Despite the fact that you will find English speakers throughout the country, the standard of conversational English teaching in public schools is usually poor. The students may know about English literature and are better at grammar than most native-speakers, but they find it hard to make themselves understood and therefore lack the confidence to speak English. Without strong English skills, they miss out on the highest salaried jobs that go to those who can afford a private education.
Volunteering abroad as a teacher in Bangalore, Karnataka or Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu (120 Kms from Bangalore city), India is an ideal way to help redress this imbalance. You can gain invaluable international development work experience without any previous skills and you do not need any TEFL training or certification. Whether you are volunteering in India during your gap year, career break, or a volunteer vacation, you will have a crucial role to play on one of our teaching projects.

Volunteering at a Teaching Placement in India with Projects Abroad

Every month, International Volunteering for a Cause Projects Abroad presents workshops to support volunteers and provide training related to their work at placements. If you have any special requirements, we are always happy to help you out with extra resources.
Whatever your skills, as a volunteer in India you will make an important contribution by improving students’ spoken English and giving them the confidence that comes from being able to communicate with a native speaker. It is likely to be an experience neither you nor they will ever forget. You will also be part of a much larger volunteer network, which is making a hugely positive contribution to the wider community.
Twice a month Care, Teaching, and Sportsvolunteers join forces to serve the community in Bangalore, Karnataka or Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu (120 Kmts from Bangalore city). The teams work together to tackle a variety of community issues. These could include the setting up of a library, the creation of learning tools, or participation in local sporting events. Volunteers are welcome to suggest other ways in which they would like to help.
Volunteering as a Teacher in India
In India, Teaching volunteers are placed in schools in Bangalore, Karnataka or Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu (120 Kmts from Bangalore city). Facilities in these schools are often basic - you may find yourself with little more than a blackboard and a piece of chalk. But with one of the school's English-speaking teachers as your supervisor and the support of our Projects Abroad India staff, you may be surprised at how quickly you gain confidence and make progress.

As a Teaching volunteer, you will play a vital role in improving the spoken skills and future options open to the children and teachers at the schools where we work. You can teach younger children or teenagers but whatever the age, you will find that the students are eager to learn all about your culture and your life back home, and taking advantage of this enthusiasm is the first lesson you will learn in your quest to improve their spoken English and comprehension.
Volunteers generally find that teaching practices in India have remained the same for years - the children usually learning by rote and copying out sections of text. By singing songs, playing games and generally making the lessons more interesting, you will bring the subject alive and witness the children growing in confidence and ability.
There are also opportunities to teach French, mathematics, science, and physical education in schools in Bangalore, Karnataka or Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu (120 Kmts from Bangalore city) if you would like to do something in addition to teaching English. In many cases, you can specialize in teaching other subjects. Please let us know if you are interested in this option when you apply.
