About International House of Rhode Island

What is the International House of Rhode Island? International House was founded right here in Providence, RI in 1963. Since 1963, we have been on a mission to promote friendship, connection, learning, and global understanding by bringing people together from around the world for cross-cultural exchange. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit that serves over 1,000 people from over 70+ countries in a typical year. International House hosts a series of English & Non-English Language classes in our historical building. We are also a unique community center for Arts & Culture programs like international diners, music concerts, book talks and so much more! Most importantly- we are a home for international visitors who are looking for a foothold in a new community.



As we continue our mission to provide a link between the community and international students, scholars and visitors, we actively seek volunteers to assist in this mission.
We offer classes in eight different levels of English as a second language, and private tutors for our international students that involves only an hour and a half a week. We have international dinners and cultural events for which we are always seeking volunteers.

Where you can help:

--Teachers of English, substitute teachers, summer teachers
--Tutors for private sessions (often only for conversational practice)
--Helpers to prepare international meals
--Committees for planning and programs
--Fundraising
--Recruiting of new members
