Double Up Food Bucks!

Increasing access to local fruits and vegetables for low-come Idahoans.

A fundraising campaign for Idaho Farmers Market Association, INC.

The Double Up Food Bucks program doubles the value of federal nutrition (SNAP or food stamps) benefits spent at participating markets and grocery stores, helping people bring home more healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers. The wins are three-fold: low-income consumers eat more healthy food, local farmers gain new customers and make more money, and more food dollars stay in the local economy.

The Idaho Farmers Market Association launched the program in 12 farmers markets in 2016. The program distributed upwards of $17,000 that was redeemed for locally grown fruits and vegetables by low-income Idahoans. We are currently strengthening and expanding the program with hopes of bringing it to every eligible farmers market in Idaho by 2020.

Approximately 1 in 9 people in Idaho utilize the food stamp program which translates to almost a quarter million residents. Therefore all of these people are eligible to receive Double Up Food Bucks benefits!
