About Why We Matter...

My name is Kathy and I Know I Matter. Well, at least that is what I believe today. I know I’m meant to be here and that I have a purpose in life, but ask me tomorrow and I may feel that I am worthless and have no meaning. I have these internal struggles every minute of every day. I have lived a life of feeling trapped inside of my own mind. Not having control of your own thoughts or emotions is unlike anything you could ever experience and I battle that demon inside me constantly. Some say that I should just be able to snap out of it, smile, and live life. And while I look pulled together on the outside I’m falling apart on the inside. Have I ever thought of suicide? Yes, and on a daily basis. This is my normal. I thought this would be the story for the rest of my life, however long that would be, the reality was, I thought I had to just deal with the hand I had been dealt.

In 2008, I was given a new chapter when I was officially diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Finally, an explanation to what had consumed me and controlled me for so many years. What I know now in this new chapter is Bipolar Disorder is a piece of me but it does not define me or determine who I am as a whole. I know I am meant to be here and I will not allow my mind to control me anymore.
