About Housing MS: We are a nonprofit coalition of affordable housing leaders, housing providers, community based organizations, and financial institutions that are working together to make Mississippi a Place to Call Home for everyone. We came together as an informal coalition in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to begin to fight for better access to safe, accessible, and affordable homes. In the summer of 2013, Housing Mississippi was officially born. We are dedicated to working to preserve and expand access to safe, accessible, and affordable homes in the state of Mississippi.
Primary Purpose: We are looking for a Project Intern for a three-to-six month internship (e.g. January - June) to expand our organization’s capacity by working with our Board of Directors to complete set and complete goals for the year. The intern will help us develop a strategy that will help us move forward in advocating for affordable housing in Mississippi.
DUTIES:
● Adopt an understanding of our mission and purpose;
● Employ the use of various strategies to support our mission;
● Work with each committee to ensure they are on the same page;
● Work to identify issues and solve them as needed;
● Assist with monitoring and evaluating any project goals;
● Maintain our website-including updating regularly and responding to engagement;
● Support the production of multimedia content, including videos and photos;
● Attend, and help with logistics for, various events, rallies and meetings;
● Conduct internal, talking point and opposition research on short turnaround; and
● Perform other functions as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
● Be a strong writer who communicates in a precise, concise, accessible and persuasive manner;
● Be able to identify how you can add value to evolving situations;
● Work hard and be able to prioritize evolving tasks and deadlines;
● Pay attention to detail;
● Excel whether working individually or in teams;
● Take responsibility for assignments and meet deadlines;
● Brainstorm new ideas for activist communications;
● Be knowledgeable about and interested in politics, policy, advocacy and social movements- especially those revolving around housing,
● Consume various types of media and be familiar with current events; and
● Passionate about making sure everyone has a place to call home in Mississippi

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standard office setting.

COMPENSATION: unpaid, willing to work with intern for study credit/recommendation
