About Communications Intern

About Housing MS: We are a nonprofit coalition of affordable housing leaders, housing providers, community based organizations, and financial institutions that are working together to make Mississippi a Place to Call Home for everyone. We came together as an informal coalition in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to begin to fight for better access to safe, accessible, and affordable homes. In the summer of 2013, Housing Mississippi was officially born. We are dedicated to working to preserve and expand access to safe, accessible, and affordable homes in the state of Mississippi.
Primary Purpose: We are looking for a Communications Intern for a three-to-six month internship (e.g. January - June) to expand our organization’s communications capacity by engaging our membership and advocates through email, social media, our website, and more. ● Maintain our website-including updating regularly and responding to engagement;
● Produce content for Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites;
● Support the production of multimedia content, including videos and photos;
● Attend, and help with logistics for, various events, rallies and meetings;
● Conduct internal, talking point and opposition research on short turnaround; and
● Perform other functions as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
● Be a strong writer who communicates in a precise, concise, accessible and persuasive manner;
● Be able to identify how you can add value to evolving situations;
● Work hard and be able to prioritize evolving tasks and deadlines;

● Take responsibility for assignments and meet deadlines;
● Brainstorm new ideas for activist communications;
● Be knowledgeable about and interested in politics, policy, advocacy and social movements- especially those revolving around housing,
