About Pet Therapy Volunteers - Battle Creek Area
Dogs, and their humans, are needed to visit hospice clients.. Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan needs pet visitors to spend a little time with clients and their families who face life limiting illnesses. At the end of life, losses of home, possessions and treasured pets can contribute to profound sadness and loneliness. When the ability to communicate declines, it may be easier for a person to share a connection with a dog than a person.
Our teams visit clients and families at our hospices residences (Glenn Arbor), in skilled care facilities and in a clients private home. While no specific training is required for the dogs, they must become certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. https://www.therapydogs.com/join-therapy-dogs/
The dog owners are required to participate in the HCSWMI Volunteer Training.
Application Process
Training begins on June 12. Visit our website at www.hospiceswmi.org and apply today or call for more information.
