Connecticut College Application Week

Give a few hours. Change a student’s future.

Higher Heights and the Connecticut College Access and Advising Network (CCAN) are recruiting volunteers across the state to help high school seniors take one of the most important steps of their lives: applying to college.

During Connecticut College Application Week, our volunteers sit side by side with students and help them complete and submit at least one college application. For many seniors —that hands-on support is the difference between applying and giving up. You don’t need to be an admissions expert. You just need a few hours and a willingness to help.

What Volunteers Do
• Guide seniors through completing and submitting at least one college application
• Help students create accounts, gather information, and navigate application platforms
• Answer basic questions and cheer students on through the process
• OTHER: Support HBCU-focused sessions, including the Common Black College Application, where offered


You’ll always work alongside school staff and our team — never on your own.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, including:
• College admissions professionals
• School counselors
• College access professionals
• Higher Heights alumni
• College students
• Community leaders
• Corporate volunteers
• Retired educators

Where You’ll Serve
Our initial partner communities are New Haven, Hamden, Waterbury, and Middletown, with additional towns to be added. When you register, you’ll choose your preferred school district and the times you’re available, and we’ll match you to a participating school.
Time Commitment & Training
• Flexible: sign up for one session or several — you choose your availability.
• Supported: we provide a volunteer toolkit and all materials you’ll need.
• Timely: volunteer activities center on Connecticut College Application Week, and align with the Connecticut College Systems Free Application Day on Monday, November 2, 2026, when students can apply to Connecticut’s public colleges and universities at no cost.

Required: All volunteers must attend two virtual training sessions before working with students. Training is free and prepares you for everything you’ll do.
• Session 1: Sunday, October 4 at 5:00pm— Session focus program overview, your role, and expectations
• Session 2: Sunday, October 25 at 5:00pm — Session focus — application platforms, confirmed volunteer placement locations, times and details

No experience required. We’ll make sure you feel prepared and confident.
