About VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AFRICA

Volunteer with us
Volunteer opportunity Africa is supported by many volunteers who are an essential part of our team! The commitment and hard work of our volunteers have played a key role in achieving our positive impact. Volunteering with us offers an opportunity to make a difference in a local community while discovering the unique Ugandan culture, making new friends and having a rewarding experience you will remember for the rest of your life. As you gain valuable learning experience, your work helps us in meeting our objective of providing solutions to the most urgent needs and problems in the community via our programs that have a positive impact. We offer a number of services to the community; therefore there is a wide range of activities in which you can participate, on-site and off-site, from your home town. The international volunteer opportunities offered through Projects Abroad allow you to not only provide beneficial aid and services to your community but also gain new insight into your adopted country and culture. You’ll meet new people, learn about a new culture, live in a new environment, and provide meaningful support to those that need it most.
Who can volunteer internationally?
Volunteer opportunity Africa has international volunteer opportunities for high school, college students, recent graduates, career breakers, professionals, retirees, and everyone in between. Our volunteer community is incredibly diverse. You will work alongside volunteers from many different countries and backgrounds who all share the same goal: to help make life better for people everywhere. Our volunteer and internship chart is a good tool to determine which type of arrangement is best for you.
What international volunteer opportunities are available?
We have hundreds of different international opportunities . Our projects are designed to allow you to make a real difference in someone’s life. Whether you choose to volunteer with children in Uganda, Medical support to the needy, Women empowerment, Youth empowerment, School programs, Poverty alleviation, Building project, Evangelism, build a community center in Uganda , your time and efforts will make a significant impact.

What Sets volunteer opportunity Africa Apart?
1. Working year-round at our 10 sites builds strong relationships with our host families and other community partners, making our programs safe, culturally immersive, and developmentally impactful.
2. Our programs are structured and supportive, with ongoing educational and cultural activities, logistical advice, and round-the-clock safety and security support provided by our dedicated site team staff.
3. We offer rigorous participatory development, community engagement, cultural integration and project management training that participants apply in the field.
4. We are as much (if not more) concerned about community outcomes as participant learning outcomes.
5. Our program frameworks, values, and partnerships reflect our community outcome priorities; this deepens the participant experience through critical reflection on issues of power, privilege, social identity, and the role of international development.
Be The Change in The World: Volunteer Abroad
Real Change.Serious Development. You can create, nurture and sustain the well-being of the world’s children on community-led projects with Global Volunteers. Join a team of short-term volunteers providing essential resources in homes, classrooms, clinics and hospitals, orphanages, childcare and community centers, libraries, government offices, farm fields, and more. Share your skills and exceed your own expectations - helping children and families reach their greatest potential.
I have limited mobility—can I still volunteer?
People with disabilities or chronic health conditions can still benefit greatly from volunteering. In fact, research has shown that adults with disabilities or health conditions ranging from hearing and vision loss to heart disease, diabetes or digestive disorders all show improvement after volunteering.
Whether due to a disability, a lack of transportation, or time constraints, many people choose to volunteer their time via phone or computer. There are many projects where you can help. Writing and graphic design lends itself to working at home, and in today's digital age many organizations might also need help with email and websites.
If you think home-based volunteering might be right for you, contact us . Some volunteer organizations may require you to attend an initial training or periodical meetings. You also want to make sure that you are getting enough social contact, and that the organization is available to support you should you have questions.
Volunteering: The happiness effect
Helping others kindles happiness, as many studies have demonstrated. When researchers at the London School of Economics examined the relationship between volunteering and measures of happiness in a large group of American adults, they found the more people volunteered, the happier they were, according to a study in Social Science and Medicine. Compared with people who never volunteered the odds of being “very happy” rose 7% among those who volunteer monthly and 12% for people who volunteer every two to four weeks. Among weekly volunteers, 16% felt very happy, say the researchers.

Volunteer opportunity programs
Activities with Children
Under this program a volunteer will be able to do parenting, teaching, mentoring, and care taking. In this way, one will be assigned to help a child where he or she can do best. Being with these children can bring hope, and joy that they missed due to the death of their parents at a very young age thus this makes them to know that there is still other people who love and care about them.
You’ll dispel some myths about the dire state of the “African orphanage” and have tonnes of fun with some very deserving kids in the process!
Women empowerment
Under women empowerment we carry out trainings in entrepreneurship skills and life self sustaining skills, in this women are trained according to their interests, some get trainings in entrepreneurship skills, sowing skills, art and craft. We believe that through these programs the vulnerable women will be able to take care of their families.
Medical support
In Africa most especially in the rural areas most people cannot afford medical expenses and they end up using traditional drugs which at times may fail to work this is why in this way we introduced a program of going to communities and giving treatments to people with in the communities. In this program we carry out dental treatment, blood checkups and blood donations and other treatments as we can afford.
Public Health Improvement
Are you a confident speaker? Can you communicate important information in creative ways? Do you want to learn the reality on the ground regarding public health in Uganda? In this project, volunteers work alongside local counselors and health care professionals, in a variety of programs designed to help Ugandans stay healthy and make good decisions about their health care.
Volunteers talk to people in village meetings, private homes, and churches. They design seminars based on subjects that can include household hygiene, malaria prevention, safe sex, HIV prevention and AIDS care, substance abuse, domestic violence, etc. Basic training and educational materials are on site, but volunteers are encouraged to bring new materials as well.
Volunteers can also work in clinics and maternities talking directly to women and girls about safe sex, family planning, maternal and child health, and nutrition.
This project requires walking long distances in the sun. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag, a hat, and walking shoes. Volunteers will be given a private room at the host organization as their home base. When work is done in surrounding villages, volunteers may be billeted short-term on site.
Poverty alleviation activities for sustainable development
This program is concerned with making communities aware and training them the methods and mechanisms of poverty free environment. However this is mainly done by equipping them with knowledge about agriculture and productivity, advantages of setting the saving schemes and having a mind of job creation instead of job seeking. We believe that with this we can change the way of living in many poor families in Africa most especially in Uganda.
Organic Farming and Agriculture
Do you like playing in the dirt? Interested in seeing the impact of climate change in the tropics? Come volunteer in a local farm and help a community achieve food security and environmental sustainability.
Volunteers work with program staff to introduce organic farming techniques, farm management, and small agro business projects. Expect to help prepare soil, plant/maintain fields, and care for poultry and other livestock. Volunteers learn and promote environmental conservation practices such as soil erosion prevention, natural pest repellant use, biogas production, solar fruit drying, and interlocking brick construction.

Village Teaching and Outreach
Do you want to ride to work on the back of a motor cycle as the sun rises? Scrub the red dust off your feet as the sun sets? Experience new activities with each new day? This placement is for you. Volunteers learn to make baskets while discussing domestic issues with amazing Ugandan women’s groups. You’ll feed pigs and cows. You’ll plant carrots, cabbages and tomatoes. You’ll dig wells. You’ll help primary students learn fractions. You’ll play Duck! Duck! Goose! with a bunch of 5 year olds. The sky is the limit!
Our partner works with a number of small community based organizations that provide counseling, care, and education for rural people, and orphaned and needy kids. Some of these placements focus exclusively on teaching primary lessons and extra-curriculars. Others include both teaching and outreach components. Please inform us if you wish to teach, do outreach work, or a combination of both, so we can best choose your program.

Evangelism
In this program we carry out door to door outreaches, school ministry where we offer students with skills of academic excellence with God’s love and wisdom. The main theme is always “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” we also carry out prison ministries where we go to prisons and preach, encourage and give hope to the prisoners.

Remote Orphan Care
Do you love kids? Are YOU a big kid? Volunteers with never ending energy and loads of games up their sleeve can live and work with HIV affected orphans and needy children. You’ll bring love, encouragement, and creativity to kids who lack family stability due to AIDS related illnesses. Volunteers help with basic academics, feeding, and organizing play and arts and crafts.
Youth Empowerment Initiatives
Under this program we train the illiterate youth in computer training, carpentry, mechanics and entrepreneurship skills. With this we aim at reducing a poverty line with in Africa and also as it is said that an idol mind is a devils workshop we encourage and engage the youth in activities that bring love joy and peace in their mind sports, dance music and entertainment.
School programs
In this program we move to schools and have a counseling session, encouragements, uplifting their talents and life skill teachings to the studies. The Bible rightly admonishes to “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it” (proverbs 22:6). In doing so we believe that we shall bring up a new generation which will change Africa.
Town Teaching
Are you enthusiastic about early childhood development? Do you love kids and want to teach them about the world? Our partner works with four private primary and secondary schools that cater exclusively to the education, housing and feeding of needy children and orphans. However, local education is largely rote learning. Come and feed their hungry little brains!
Volunteers are involved in academics, arts and crafts, structured play, music/singing, sports, and public health. The main focus is to provide children with a loving, creative, interactive environment in which to flourish. Volunteers choose which subjects and age groups to teach upon arrival. They work independently to plan lessons using government curriculum and textbooks. Please be aware that kids come with only pencils and exercise books. Bring any further tools or materials you wish to use.
No teaching qualifications are required although volunteers should be reliable, organized and creative.

Bring your hat, gloves, sunscreen and bug spray!
We welcome people who would like to come and volunteer with us from all over the world and also we will appreciate those who would like to be friends, life time members or who would like to sponsor a child or project. We shall be
