About Spring Tour Guide - School Groups

Do you have a passion for teaching, history, or interacting with kids? Join our team as a museum tour guide for school groups! Each year more than 4,000 people come to the Fort for school field trips and we couldn't share our unique Missoula County history with them without volunteers!

Capable of physical activity, including standing for an hour or more at a time
Commitment to making Missoula history accessible and fun for all ages
Local history knowledge is not necessary but docents must be willing to spend time and expend the effort necessary to learn the material and train with Museum staff.


Responsibilities/Duties

Train with education staff to learn tours which includes:
Reading the background and lesson materials given for tours or events
Additional personal research of topic
Shadowing education staff member or an experienced docent
Practicing presentation with staff member
Leading tours for groups
Assisting or leading activities for special events
Attend initial spring or fall training session
Attend monthly winter Brown Bag Lunches as able (not required, but a lot of fun!)
Attend fall field trip as able (not required, but again, a lot of fun!)
Expectations/Guidelines

Reliable and punctual
Respectful of visitors and staff
During times of service, family members, friends, and pets cannot accompany docents.
Inform education staff ASAP about anticipated absence


Training

Spring and Fall training
Ongoing training provided for interested docents for new exhibits’ content and touring strategies
Winter Brown Bag Lunches provide additional information about museum exhibit topics as well as a time to share stories and socialize more informally.
Fall field trip extends our knowledge beyond our Museum by taking us to other museums to expand our horizons.


Commitment

Available to help with 2 group tours or other activity a month (more is great!)
