About Us

The Friends of Libraries and Archives of Texas supports critical programs that bring the gift of literacy, reading, historical preservation, and a love of education throughout our state.

We support the Texas Center for the Book, which brings the Letters about Literature student writing contest to all parts of the state; historical research using Texas primary resources; and activities for the Talking Book Program, which provides reading materials to people who are blind or visually disabled.

FLAT has also supported the first statewide reading campaign administered by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, stipends to scholars for research at the State Archives, and technology planning and broadband readiness at rural public libraries.

As we support the programs and resources of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, we aim to increase the impact of educational opportunities to all the people of our state and to promote a love of learning.
