About Housing First
Housing First is an innovative strategy that is ending street homelessness by providing long-term homeless individuals with dignified housing so they are no longer living on the streets or in shelters. Along with permanent housing as well as support services like case management and health care providers, these individuals are given the opportunity to gain a more stable lifestyle, get back on their feet, and rebuild their lives.

Create Housewarming Gift Baskets!

Remember moving into your first apartment or home? The anticipation and excitement of finally having a space to call your own?
You can help people who have spent years living on the streets or in shelters feel that same warmth and excitement as they move into their new home by providing the essential items we all need to make our house a home.
Boston’s "Housing First" Initiative is making great strides in ending long-term homelessness by placing people in housing first - immediately removing the chaos of living on the street and in shelters - and providing them the support they need to rebuild their lives.
By assembling and donating Housewarming Gift Baskets, you'll be an important part in welcoming people into their new homes where they'll find the stability and serenity they need to begin their journey to restoration.
It’s as simple as assembling new (not used) items like cleaning supplies, dish soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, a set of sheets or towels, in a basket to be given as a housewarming gift to "Housing First" beneficiaries. And don’t forget to include a nice welcome note!
For those interested in making it a group project, you can also hold a collection at your work, school or place of worship and create as many baskets as you'd like!
No matter what you choose, your gifts will transform someone's new apartment into a warm, welcoming home.

Looking for a meaningful way to volunteer in your community? Consider spending a day with someone by helping them move into their new home!
We need your help in transporting furniture and household items for individuals who are moving out of shelters and off the streets. The city of Boston is implementing the “Housing First” model, an innovative strategy that strives to eliminate homelessness by placing long-term homeless individuals into permanent supportive, housing and immediately removes them from life on the streets. As more individuals are placed into housing, there is a higher need for assistance in moving their belongings and new furniture.
You can share in the joyous moments of someone who is moving into a permanent residence, and help them make a smooth transition into the place they will finally call home. For more information, please contact Ally at [email protected].

- Someone who owns and operates a truck (to help with moving)
- Someone who can drive a large van (can be provided for you)
