About Shift the narrative of the working poor
“How can I help?” is a question we often hear from friends and colleagues. While we intentionally don’t help in the traditional sense, we do learn from our families and invest in those areas they’ve told us are important to their social and economic mobility. So while this approach doesn't lend itself to typical social service volunteer opportunities, there are many ways for you to join the FII movement.
• First and foremost, trust and invest in low-income families
• Applaud the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and positive contribution made by those raising themselves out of poverty
• Proactively reject negative societal stereotypes and perceptions of low-income communities
• Support FII’s bottom-up approach to poverty alleviation, and challenge traditional and largely unsuccessful top-down models
