About Youth Initiatives
EOTC’s Friends/AMIGOS program promotes positive youth development and academic success through mentoring. Weekly after-school sessions are based in South Scranton’s Skyview Park neighborhood. Local college students and bilingual volunteers are paired with children ages 8-14 for homework help, hands-on arts and cultural activities, and field experiences.
About 40 children participate each school year. Over time, our mentoring participants have shown measurable gains in school attachment, social-emotional growth and practical life skills.
EOTC is a provider for the National Mentoring Children of Prisoners voucher program. The FRIENDS/AMIGOS program is partially supported by Lackawanna County’s ARTS Engage! initiative and Voluntary Action Center/Big Brothers-Big Sisters of NEPA.
