About 4-H Therapeutic Riding at Elizabeth A. Howard Riding Center

The MSU Extension Equine Assisted Therapy Programs at is in need of volunteers to assist with our therapeutic riding sessions at the Elizabeth A. Howard Therapeutic Riding and Activities Center in West Point, MS each fall and spring. Volunteers are needed for the 2016 spring sessions from February 1, 2016 - April 20, 2016 on the following days of the week and times:
Mondays: 3:30 - 4:15 PM; 5:30 - 6:15 PM
Wednesdays: 9:00 - 9:45 AM; 2:30 - 315 PM; 3:30 - 4:15 PM; 4:30 - 5:15 PM; 5:30 - 6:15 PM
Thursdays: 5:30 - 6:15 PM

Each session features exercises in the arena lead by the instructor and we need 3 volunteers per rider to assist in each riding session. Volunteers can serve as leaders and side walkers during the session and they can also assist in cleaning the tack room and other such tasks.

Volunteers need to complete a volunteer training session before volunteering for the first time. Orientation Dates/Times for the spring 2016 sessions are January 26th and January 28th from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM.

Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer each week at the same time with the same rider.

Application Process

Volunteers who serve as leaders need to have previous horse experience; however, volunteers who serve as side walkers need no horse experience.

Volunteers need to be at least 14 years of age to volunteer. Volunteers 14-16 years of age need to be accompanied by a parent.
