The mission of the East Hill Aviation Foundation (EHAF) is to provide educational support and other opportunities to those interested in aviation, both as a career and an avocation. We do this by providing aviation education scholarships, educational equipment and materials, and other support delivered through the East Hill Flying Club (EHFC) in Ithaca, NY.
Many contributors to EHAF are pilots or have been interested in aviation for years. The foundation is a way to "pay it forward" to others who aspire to fly. Some look to contribute so that others can fulfill their dreams of flight.
Our most recent scholarship recipient (pictured in our logo spot) never thought she could learn to fly. The photo is of her on the day she received her private pilot's certificate. She hopes to continue and become a professional pilot.
This year, the proceeds from our "Giving is Gorges" campaign will support a new scholarship:
"The Marian Cutting Women's Aviation Scholarship"
Earlier this year, Marian Cutting passed away after a long and wonderful life that included giving back much to our community. In 1977, as a 50th birthday present, her husband and pilot, R. Davis Cutting gave her flying lessons. She quickly got her license and flew regularly for over 35 years! She and Dave traveled throughout the "lower 48", Canada, and also did an Alaska trip in their airplane. Marian also was a long time member and volunteer at East Hill Flying Club, mentoring and inspiring girls and women (men, too) to get involved with and really enjoy the wonders of flight.
The generosity of past donors has already enabled creation of a $1,000 scholarship. To honor Marian’s memory, this year’s goal is to raise additional funds for additional scholarships that will enable women in their mid-life wishing to get involved in aviation. Just like Marian!
