The mission of the East Central Area Literacy Council is to promote increased literacy for adult learners in east central Missouri through the effective use of volunteers, the provision of support services for volunteers and learners, and collaboration with individuals, groups, or organizations desiring to foster increased literacy.
As such, the East Central Area Literacy Council is committed to:
Enabling adults in need of basic literacy skills to achieve their potential through one-to-one or small group instruction.
Training, supervising, and supporting volunteer tutors and students.
Strengthening and improving the adult education and literacy program capacity to provide literacy instruction and services to the community.
Transitioning literacy students to adult education programs for meeting future educational goals such as obtaining a high school equivalency, preparing for secondary education, job skills development, or life skills development.
