About Internships

Interns help provide direct legal services in DVLC’s Order of Protection Division, Family Law Division, Independence Project (immigration), and Self-Representation Assistance Project. This includes interviewing the client, acting as a liaison between the attorney and the client during the screening process, and carefully preparing appropriate court documents. Prior to beginning work at DVLC, interns must undergo on-site training, informing them about the dynamics of domestic violence and substantive domestic violence law and civil procedure. Students licensed under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 may act as counsel in court under the supervision of the clinic’s staff attorneys.
