About Mississippi's Walk for Diabetes-Gulf Coast

Join the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi for a day of fun and fellowship as we take steps to help Mississippi kids and adults living with diabetes. Every dollar raised STAYS in Mississippi to provide emergency medical assistance, send kids to diabetes camp and provide educational programs for families and health professionals.
Our theme is "We are Family!" and we need YOU to help us make this day run smoothly by helping us set up, register, decorate, cheer, hand out water and snacks and clean up! Call our office at 601 957-7878 if you want to have a walk team and sign up here to volunteer!

Paper the town! Put out Walk posters

This task is filled or completed

Let the Gulf Coast know about Walk 2018! We need people to put out the posters in businesses and gathering places all around the Gulf Coast cities. We will provide the tape and posters. Help us track where the posters are by picking up a business card wherever you put up a poster! Must have valid driver's license!

Set up the Walk site and route!

Help us set up tents, tables, chairs, and banners. Learn how to make a balloon arch and decorate the walk site! Help us mark the walk route with signs.

Keep our youngest participants entertained! Help with face painting, temporary tattoos and even balloon animals! Help us keep track of Best T-shirt voting too!

Rest Stop Support

September 15, 2018 9:30am – 11:30am

This task is filled or completed

Need three people per rest stop and at Sugar shack. (One volunteer should be a nurse/EMT/first aid proficient person at each rest stop). Hand out water and fruit, cheer on the walkers, do basic first aid and give low blood glucose emergency supplies for those with diabetes. We will have an ambulance on standby in case of emergency.

Start/Finish Line Support

Help our Kandu kids and VIPs cut the ribbon to lead off the walk, take photos, direct participants toward 1 mile or 3.1/5K walk routes, cheer walkers and hand our Victory medals as walkers cross over the finish line!
