The mission of DeSoto Animal Rescue Society is to be a voice for companion animals by giving them a better quality of life through foster care and adoption; humane & pet overpopulation education; and advocacy for the humane treatment of all animals.
DARS is an all volunteer 501(3)c nonprofit who rely completely on the generosity of community donations to support the work we do to rescue, rehabilitate, foster and eventually re-home needy animals. We are a group of like minded individuals from all walks of life who come together to work to save needy animals in our communities. We have a wide variety of opportunities for animal lovers to help. We do not have a facility, but foster all animals in our homes. We desperately need more foster homes which will allow us to save more needy animals. We also need general volunteers who can help at adoption events, return voicemails, do humane education, etc. See a full list of volunteer opportunities on our website.
The DeSoto Animal Rescue Society was established in 1998 when an urgent need was recognized for a countywide effort to find loving homes for abandoned, abused, and neglected companion animals. The DeSoto Animal Rescue Society has grown in leaps and bounds from those humble beginnings, but our goal has not changed, and our mission has expanded to include education of the public and an effective spay/neuter program. As we grow, we also struggle with the need for continued funding. The growing number of abandoned, abused and neglected animals currently outweighs our ability to house, feed, and care for all of them. Our non-profit organization is totally volunteer driven; all animals are fostered in our own homes.
