About Bring a smile to a child - Teach history!

Cracker Country Work is REWARDING: Slowly the stories of Florida’s past are being forgotten. The more we can share and preserve these stories with the public, the more we can learn and appreciate our history. Cracker Country work is rewarding because it offers our exceptional volunteers the opportunity to:

• Make a difference in their community

• Promote the preservation of Florida’s unique past

• Meet new people and experience professional growth

• Specialize in a specific area of interest

• Grow with a dynamic program that meets real needs every day

Community: More than 20,000 elementary aged school children visit Cracker Country every year. And many of them have never had the opportunity to learn of the lives of Florida’s ‘crackers.’ Cracker Country volunteers provide a VALUABLE, hands-on, and lively interpretation to make rural Florida’s history come alive.

Florida State Fair: Cracker Country is the only living history museum in Tampa, Fl. and is a special feature of the Florida State Fair. Each year more than 200,000 Fair visitors enter Cracker Country and enjoy the unique demonstrations, crafts, and history. Cracker Country volunteers are vital in sharing the rural Floridians’ story with Tampa’s community.

Cracker Country Offers Many Types of Volunteer Opportunities: Cracker Country offers a variety of opportunities to match the diverse interests of potential volunteers. Roles such as historic area interpreter, maintenance, heirloom gardening, sewing, model train displays, store clerks, office work, outreach, and more.

Cracker Country Volunteers are Part of a Team: Volunteers work with a committed team of staff and other volunteers to help their community. Volunteers receive training and support from staff and veteran volunteers. Further, Cracker Country volunteers are part of a larger network, the Florida State Fair Authority who invests in the local community and the State of Florida!

Cracker Country Work is Flexible: Cracker Country volunteers generally can schedule their work to accommodate family, work, or other responsibilities. This makes volunteering flexible and rewarding!
