About Become a Mentor

The role played by Mentors is at the core of Community Partners' success. Without the steadfast committment of an adult who listens and supports them throughout their school term, our youth wouldn't be able to pursue and achieve their academic and personal goals. It's like being a coach - you listen, guide and support.

Mentors receive 20 hours of training with time-tested and evidence-based curriculum, so you will be able to provide effective and meaningful support to your mentee. Community Partners' well-trained staff and experienced mentor coaches will be your support team. Together, the team ensures a respectful, trust-based environment, and the context in which your youth begins to trust, learn, and grow. As youth build upon each small success, a small spark of hope is lit, accompanied by the fragile willingness to begin to trust oneself. Mentors are the ones who can fan those sparks into full-fledged flames that changes lives.

If you want to make a lasting impact in your community and help our youth, consider becoming a mentor for Community Partners. You will change a life --- and maybe your own!

A successful mentor candidate is age 21 or older, preferably with a college degree and a history of stable employment. The critical requirement is commitment of 4 - 6 hours per week, each week for the entirety of the school year (October through June). If a mentor abandons his or her position, the youth will believe this is just another person giving up on them.
