You love your community, you're civic-minded, and you want to volunteer - but structured hours, getting across town, and juggling your other commitments make it tough. If you believe in the power of data to improve lives, here's a way to volunteer on your own schedule, at home, with your sock monkey house shoes on.
Our Data Explorer (nowdata.cinow.info/) is a curated collection of online data tools, reports, maps, and other sources of data about Bexar and the surrounding 11 counties. It's a way for the community to quickly find the data that's trustworthy, not just whatever comes up first in google search results. And it's a way for us to share all the amazing data resources we know about, democratizing data as much as we can.
But we don't have the funding to keep it updated the way we want to. We need a volunteer or two to add the data sources we provide, entering them via an online interface and indexing and describing them in enough detail that people can easily find them. Here's an example: http://nowdata.cinow.info/indicators/local-employment-dynamics-led-quarterly-workforce-.
We'll provide training and review the information you input before it goes live. But it's important to have some familiarity with data resources and with relationship database structure or information hierarchies. Prior experience indexing/describing items so people can find them would be a huge plus.
Please send us a note via our contact form (https://cinow.info/contact/) and let us know you're interested in learning more. We'll arrange to meet each other and talk more about the work.
No one has signed up yet, but you could be the first!
