About Historic Properties Docents/Tour Guides

Columbia County Historical Society requires seasonal volunteer docent tour guides to provide tours of the Van Alen House and Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse. During the visitor season, tour guides are needed on-site during open hours to lead tours . This volunteer position offers an opportunity to share the history of Columbia County with visitors.

Responsibilities:
Lead tours of Van Alen House and Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse
Greet and welcome visitors of all ages
Represent the Columbia County Historical Society in a professional manner
Encourage return visits through promoting memberships, programs and events

Qualifications:
Excellent communication and people skills
Experience in public presentations, historical interpretation, or related activities preferred but not required
Strong background or interest in history, art history, and/or historic preservation is helpful but not required.
Enthusiastic about learning new information

Hours and Benefits:
Saturday and Sunday (July 1st – October 9th).
