About Make a Difference Day Service Event


On Saturday, October 28th, City Year Chicago AmeriCorps members and community members will come together to uplift and transform the Johnson School of Excellence in the North Lawndale community for City Year Chicago's annual Make a Difference Day. Volunteers will help create a more welcoming and positive school environment by performing service projects that include painting motivational murals, enlivening spaces throughout the building with color and school culture pieces, and reinvigorating functional spaces like the school hallways and stairwells.
A light lunch will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle.

Event Day Schedule:
8:30 - 9:00 am Event Day Registration at Johnson Elementary School (1420 S Albany Ave.)
9:00 - 9:30 am Opening Program
9:30 - 12:00 pm Service
12:00 - 12:30 pm Lunch (a small lunch will be provided, but please bring snacks if you feel you will need it)
12:30 - 1:00 pm Closing Program

Service Projects:
Indoor Painting: inspirational quotes and murals throughout the school, college banners, hallways and pillars
Outdoor Painting: full-wall mural on the front of the school building (weather permitting)
